It is permissible for a woman observing her iddah (definition) (waiting period) to go out for her needs, such as medical treatment and purchasing food. Touching the head, with or without a barrier, is disliked by some scholars. As for children, a woman must observe hijab (definition) from those who can perceive women's awrah (private parts), which is the age of discernment. Similarly, hijab must be observed from those who have reached ten years of age. Regarding a doctor examining a woman, it is permissible out of necessity, to the extent of the need, provided that there is no khalwah (unlawful seclusion).
