How should Christians who have corrupted their religion and claim that God has a son be treated? Is it permissible to initiate greeting them with "Good morning" or "Hello" with a smile and welcome, or is it better to completely ignore them? What is the authenticity and interpretation of the Prophet's saying: "Do not initiate greeting the People of the Book with peace... and if you meet them on a path, force them to its narrowest part"?

The more apparent view is that it is permissible to initiate a greeting with non-Muslims using phrases other than Salam, such as "Good morning" or "Hello," because the prohibition was only against initiating them with Salam. This is due to the great meanings embodied in Salam that are not befitting for non-Muslims. However, it is preferable to avoid initiating any form of greeting with them whatsoever, unless there is a legitimate Islamic benefit, such as softening their hearts towards Islam or warding off their evil, based on the hadith: "Do not initiate Salam with the Jews and Christians." The meaning of "and if you meet one of them on a road, compel him to its narrowest part" is not to make way for them out of honor and respect.
