Is it permissible for a husband to marry another woman while his wife is ill, and he desires to keep himself chaste, provided he commits to treating them both justly and does not neglect his responsibilities towards his first wife and children?

The Shari'ah has permitted a man to marry four women if he deals justly with them. If the wife is ill and it becomes difficult for the husband to remain chaste, then it is permissible, rather it may be obligatory for him, to marry another if he fears falling into the unlawful. Acquaintance between foreign men and women for the purpose of marriage is a door to temptation. It is better to marry a Muslim woman of religious commitment. It is permissible to marry a chaste woman of the People of the Book before her conversion to Islam if her conversion is hoped for. It is not permissible to marry a non-woman of the Book before her conversion to Islam. Justice must be maintained among wives in terms of division, unless one of them waives her right.
