Is a sacrificial animal whose leg was broken when it was seized sufficient?

Scholars have differed on the sufficiency of a sacrificial animal if it becomes defective after being designated and before being slaughtered. The preponderant opinion is that it is sufficient, and this is the view of the majority. The evidence for this is what Al-Bayhaqi narrated from Ibn Az-Zubayr concerning his sacrificial animal (hady). Scholars have stipulated two conditions for the sufficiency of a sacrificial animal if it becomes defective after being designated: firstly, that the defect was not due to his negligence, and secondly, that the sacrificial animal had not been designated for a sacrificial obligation that was already incumbent upon him before this designation.
