What is the authenticity of the hadiths concerning the whale carrying the seven earths?
There are some mawquf narrations indicating that the seven earths rest on the back of a whale. Abu al-Shaykh al-Asfahani mentioned these in his book Al-Adhamah. The editor of the book stated that what is reported in this regard is derived from Isra'iliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions). Sheikh Al-Albani judged the , "The earth is on water, and water is on a rock, and the rock is on the back of a whale," to be fabricated (mawdu'). Ibn Kathir also mentioned something similar, indicating that it is from the Isra'iliyyat.
Everything that has been reported in this regard does not rise to the level of authenticity from the infallible Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, one must refrain from engaging in such matters and instead occupy oneself with what is beneficial.
