The answer

The (minimum taxable amount) for crops and fruits is five awsuq (plural of wasq). A wasq is sixty sa's, so the nisab is three hundred sa's. A sa' is five and one-third ratls (Baghdadi weight). This is the view of Malik, Al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and the People of . Abu Yusuf, a companion of Abu Hanifa, reverted to this opinion after the truth became clear to him. As for the amount of due, it is one-tenth if irrigated by rainwater, rivers, or by roots absorbing water. It is one-half of one-tenth if irrigated by artificial means such as scooping, buckets, or waterwheels. As for canals and irrigation ditches dug from a large river, which require significant upkeep, the full one-tenth is due because their upkeep is not deducted from the zakat.
