Is it permissible to supplicate by invoking the secret of one of the awliya (saints), such that the supplicant says: "O Allah, by the secret of my Shaykh, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, make such and such easy for me"?

The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas in Saudi Arabia was asked about a supplication, and it responded that it contained intercession by the Prophet's ﷺ status. The disagreement among scholars regarding the ruling on supplicating by the Prophet's ﷺ status and interceding through him has been previously explained, with the prohibition being the preferred view. It was also previously stated that intercession through the essence of the prophets and righteous people and their status with Allah is a matter of scholarly disagreement with two opinions, the preponderant of which is the first opinion, which prohibits intercession.
