What is the ruling on interceding with "O Allah, I ask You by the right of Your beloved Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace"?

"Seeking intercession by virtue of the Prophet (peace be upon him) or his status is considered an innovation (bid'ah) by the majority of scholars. This is because it was not part of the Prophet's guidance, nor the practice of his companions or the Tabi'un. Furthermore, supplication (du'a) is an act of worship that is prescriptive (tawqifiyyah), meaning only what the Shari'ah has indicated is permissible. It can also be a means to polytheism (shirk). A Muslim must adhere to the Sunnah and avoid innovations."
