A woman is not permitted to seek a divorce except for a valid reason, such as ill-treatment. Seeking a divorce to test the husband is a mistake that could lead to divorce, and one should avoid mentioning divorce, whether in jest or seriously. If the husband says, "If you truly desire a divorce from your heart, then you are divorced," and the wife does not desire a divorce, then no divorce occurs, and no expiation for an oath is required.
