Is cutting ties with a mother who physically and psychologically tortured her daughter, and deprived her of her money and inheritance, considered an act of disobedience to parents (ʿuqūq)? And what is the ruling on her actions?

It is not permissible for a mother to physically torment her daughter or to unjustly take her money. The daughter may demand her financial rights with politeness and a good request. It is permissible to sue the mother to recover financial rights, but it is preferable to seek the help of wise and virtuous people. A child’s severing ties with their mother is never permissible; it constitutes disobedience and severing ties of kinship. It is obligatory to honor the mother and treat her kindly, even if she acts poorly. It is advised to pray frequently and supplicate to Allah to mend the relationship between the mother and her daughter.
