The question

Is the brownish or dark brownish discharge that lasts for three days and then stops considered menses that necessitates abstaining from prayer and fasting, or is it istihadah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding), especially since it occurs during the period when menstrual bleeding has stopped due to an irregular menstrual cycle?

The answer

Cloudiness (Al-Kudrah) is considered menses if it occurs during the usual period [of menstruation], or if there is no usual period but it coincides with the probable time of menstruation. This is according to the view of the majority of scholars. Some scholars hold that cloudiness is not considered menses, but it is preferable to adopt the view of the majority on this matter.
