Obedience to parents in marriage is not absolute. The son is not obliged to obey them in marrying a specific woman, and it is not permissible to force an adult daughter to marry someone she does not desire. However, obedience to parents is obligatory in not marrying a particular person. Therefore, it is advised to strive to convince them, but if they insist on refusal, obedience to them becomes obligatory, bearing in mind that a daughter's marriage is not valid without the consent of her guardian.
