Is it permissible to supplicate with "O Ancient of Benevolence"?

There is no objection to supplicating with "O Ancient of Benevolence," because Allah's benevolence is one of His eternal attributes. This description has been used by some scholars, such as Ibn al-Qayyim and al-Nawawi. The Sunnah also contains descriptions of some of Allah's attributes as ancient, such as the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying upon entering the mosque: "I seek refuge in Allah, the Most Great, and in His Noble Face, and His ancient dominion, from the accursed Satan." As for naming Allah as "the Ancient" in Sunan Ibn Majah, its chain of narration contains weakness. The door of informing about Allah the Exalted is wider than the door of naming Him.
