How did love stories exist during the time of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while traditions and customs considered love impermissible?
Love is of many kinds, the highest of which is the love of Allah and His Messenger. If what is meant by the Companions' love for their wives is veneration and affection, then it is praiseworthy both religiously and naturally. It indicates their good character and is part of the "living together in kindness" that Allah commanded. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, loved his wives. However, if what is meant is corruption and distance from religion, then the Companions are far removed from such a thing.
