How did the Companions achieve sincerity to reach the degree of loving God and His Messenger, and does a woman's love for her home, husband, and children contradict confining love in the heart to God alone, and what are the signs of confining love in the heart to God and His Messenger alone?
Among the signs of sincere love for Allah are: loving the meeting with Allah Almighty in Paradise by diligently performing good deeds and preparing for it; and that the believer prefers what Allah Almighty loves over what he himself loves, by avoiding whims and desires, consistently obeying, and drawing closer through supererogatory acts. Also, that he constantly remembers Allah Almighty, with his tongue never ceasing and his heart never empty of this remembrance. And that he loves His (Allah's) words (the Qur'an) and His Messenger, peace be upon him, and follows what he brought. Among the signs is the complete solace found in communing with Allah and being alone with Him. And that he regrets what he misses of the remembrance of Allah, and enjoys obedience without finding it burdensome. And that he is gentle with Allah's servants and merciful towards them, and severe with His enemies.
