What is to be done by one who squandered a trust and falsely swore not to touch it, and is unable to return the money to its owner due to its large amount and the long duration, and fears his reaction because he supports a large family?

The door of repentance is open no matter how great the sin, for Allah forgives all sins if the servant repents with sincere repentance. Among the conditions of repentance is returning rights to their owners for whoever is able. As for one who is unable to return them, his repentance is accepted, with the right remaining an obligation upon him until it becomes easy for him to return it. It is not necessary to inform the owner of the right about the method of returning the right; rather, it is sufficient to deliver it to him by any means.
