What is the wisdom behind prohibiting the drawing of living beings but not other things? And does the same ruling apply to three-dimensional drawings of living beings in games or digital drawings like caricatures?

Depicting and drawing living beings is a matter of scholarly disagreement. The preponderant opinion is the permissibility of producing and filming purposeful animated cartoons that adhere to Islamic guidelines. The prohibition of depiction pertains specifically to living beings. The majority of scholars hold the view that drawing and depicting inanimate objects, such as trees, is permissible, and this is the preponderant opinion. No one followed Mujahid in his opinion regarding the reprehensibility of drawing fruitful trees.

The Prophetic traditions affirm that the prohibition relates to living beings, as the artist is asked to breathe life into what he has made.

As for drawing with computers, if it serves a legitimate Islamic interest, then there is no objection to it. Otherwise, drawing living beings with it is prohibited.
