What is the ruling on drawing a human face?

Drawing animate beings is strictly prohibited, and it falls under the prohibitions and warnings mentioned in the texts of Islamic law. Some scholars have permitted what is incomplete in creation to an extent that life is not possible for the animate being, such as being headless or half-bodied. They based their ruling on the Prophet's command to Aisha to cut up a garment that had images on it, and on the hadith of Gabriel, who commanded him to cut off the head of a statue so that it would resemble a tree. Based on this opinion, depicting a part is not like depicting the whole. However, it is advisable to avoid all of that to steer clear of disagreement and doubt.
