What is the ruling on drawing a human face and its features only, or its upper half, and does the ruling differ if the drawing is of a real person or from imagination?

Drawing a picture of a face or an incomplete human figure from which life-sustaining parts (like the chest and abdomen) have been removed is not forbidden. However, if parts that are not life-sustaining (like a foot or a hand) have been removed, it is forbidden, whether it is of a real person or an imaginary one. Some scholars have opined that depicting the head along with the upper part of the body (like the chest) is forbidden, because the image does not cease to exist unless the head is completely severed, and this is the fatwa.
