Is it permissible to seek intercession by reciting the Qutbiyyah ode and supplicating therein to the Ghawth al-A'zham Abdul Qadir al-Jilani in this manner, for the fulfillment of worldly and otherworldly needs?

This method of supplicating to Allah is forbidden and constitutes major shirk (definition) (polytheism), because it involves invoking other than Allah, seeking help from other than Him, and asking for that which none but Allah can grant. This is akin to the disbelief of the Christians and idol worshippers. The permissible means of seeking intercession (tawassul) are those prescribed by Allah, through words and actions. Supplication must be directed to Allah alone, for He is the One capable of removing harm and answering prayers. Furthermore, applying the terms "Al-Ghawth" (The Succourer) and "Al-Ghiyath" (The Deliverer) to other than Allah is impermissible, for He alone, exalted be He, is the Deliverer of those who seek deliverance. And whoever places intermediaries between himself and Allah, relying on them or asking them, has committed disbelief by consensus. Reciting this litany constitutes disbelief due to its inclusion of seeking help from other than Allah and attributing to Abd al-Qadir that which is permissible only for Allah.
