Is it permissible to remove an adopted son from the name of the deceased father, and would the sin be absolved from the father if he is not removed?

Whoever is attributed to other than his father must be removed from the family name and attributed to his real father, due to the Almighty's saying: "Call them by [the names of] their fathers," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever attributes himself to other than his father, or takes as a master other than his real masters, then upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of mankind." He has no right to inheritance except by a will from one-third [of the estate], and it is recommended to appease him by giving him a portion. It is advised to seek forgiveness for the deceased father for his action and to correct the mistake with wisdom and gentleness.
