Is distributing parts of the Qur’an to mourners for them to read collectively with the intention of benefiting the deceased, and repeating this annually, considered an innovation (bid‘ah)?

We have clarified the permissibility of more than one person sharing in the recitation of a Khatmah (complete recitation of the Qur'an) and dedicating its reward to the deceased. However, the specific method mentioned for the Khatmah is an innovation, as it was not practiced by the predecessors (Salaf). The saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, "Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected," suffices as a refutation against them.
