Does the repentance of one who has practiced lesbianism and been afflicted with illnesses get accepted, and what can she do to expiate her sin?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Lesbianism is forbidden by scholarly consensus, and Ibn Hajar considered it a major sin. Repentance is accepted for any sin, no matter how great, and its conditions are: abandoning the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving never to return to it, while concealing oneself and not openly declaring the sin. True repentance involves avoiding the causes of disobedience and cutting off the paths leading to it. Repentance that fulfills these conditions atones for the sin. One should increase good deeds, have a good opinion of Allah, frequently engage in remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a), seek legitimate means of treatment, and not despair of Allah's mercy.
