Is it permissible, from a Sharia perspective, to store a basic food commodity like potatoes in commercial refrigerators with the aim of raising its price?

The prohibition of hoarding goods has been mentioned because it causes hardship to people. Among these are the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The importer is blessed, and the hoarder is cursed," and his saying: "Whoever hoards food for forty nights has disowned Allah, and Allah has disowned him." The jurists have stipulated conditions for unlawful hoarding: that the hoarded item must be in excess of the hoarder's and his dependents' needs for a full year; that the hoarder waits for the price of the commodity to rise; and that people are in need of the hoarded material. If these conditions are absent, then storing the material is permissible and is not considered hoarding.
