Why do groups whose religion is based on falsehood achieve greater devotion than those who follow the methodology of the jurists and scholars?
True reverence (khushu') is the reverence of the people of faith (ahl al-iman) who adhere firmly to the truth. As for the reverence of the people of falsehood (ahl al-), such as monks and some deviant sects, it is false. The innovator (mubtadi') increases in effort to gain honor, wealth, and status in this world. The soul becomes active with what aligns with its desires, and every innovation has an entry point for whims. The innovator believes that their deeds are superior to others. Allah Almighty said: "Some faces, that Day, will be humbled. Toiling, laboring. Burning in a scorching Fire." (Quran 88:2-4) And: "Say, 'Shall We inform you of the greatest losers in [their] deeds? [They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing good in work.'" (Quran 18:103-104). Satan may gain control over the people of truth to discourage them, and over the people of falsehood to incite them to their falsehood.
