What is the meaning of Al-Sadat, to whom do they belong, what is their origin, to which madhhab do they adhere, what is their status in Islam, and is it permissible to marry them?

Some communities bestow the title of "Sayyids" or "Ashraf" upon those who are descendants of the Prophet's household (Ahl al-Bayt), prohibiting them from receiving charity (Sadaqah) and entitling them to a share from the one-fifth of war spoils (Ghanimah). Nevertheless, the criterion for preference and honor in Islam is faith (Iman) and piety (Taqwa). Marriage to them is permissible, just like marriage to any other Muslim, and one should seek a spouse who possesses religiosity and good character.
