How should one deal with a mother who refuses her daughter's marriage to a young man because of the young man's father's refusal, knowing that the reason for the young man's father's refusal is due to the mother's bad reputation?

The questioner is advised to be patient and to fear Allah, the Almighty, and to make abundant supplications. Accusing a mother of adultery is among the gravest matters, and the default assumption is innocence unless clear evidence is established. It is not permissible to mention a mother's actions as a reason for refusing a suitor if that harms her, unless it serves to reform or deter evil. If the young man is righteous and the mother refuses to consent without a valid শরঈ reason, marriage is permissible without her consent, keeping in mind that marriage is not valid without a guardian (wali), and guardianship for marriage belongs to the male agnates (asabat), not the mother. If marriage to this young man is not facilitated, it is recommended to pray that Allah replaces him with someone better, while being keen on honoring the mother and earning her pleasure.
