Filial piety is one of the most obligatory duties. Part of being good to one's parents is to spend on them if they are poor. However, a condition for the obligation of spending is that the son must be well-off. Spending is obligatory on well-off sons and daughters, according to what is customary. The son is not obligated to give his father what would burden him. He must continuously maintain ties with his father, strive to please him, and uphold his right to filial piety, kindness, and obedience in what is good. If he fulfills these duties, then his father's anger or curses will not harm him.
