Is a son considered disobedient if he spends on his parents to the best of his ability, but does not obey them in financial requests that might harm his future, knowing that his parents ask for more money despite their awareness of his difficult financial circumstances, and that their actions have caused problems for him and his sister, and that his mother boycotts him if he does not agree with her opinion?

A well-off son must provide for his poor parents. It is a grave sin if he refuses. If the parents are not in need, the majority of scholars believe they do not have the right to take from their son's money without his consent. However, the Hanbalis hold that the father may take from his son's money even if he is not in need, provided it does not harm the son or is not taken to give to another son. Limiting your spending to what you can afford and refraining from what harms you is not disobedience. However, if you can give them what they want without harm, that is preferable to avoid their anger, especially your mother's. No matter how angry your mother is, you must honor her, maintain ties with her, and strive to appease her, for honoring one's parents is among the best deeds, and the Lord's pleasure lies in the parents' pleasure.
