Do the two noble verses: "And the answer of his people was not but that they said, 'Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are people who purify themselves.'" (Al-A'raf/82) and "Do you indeed approach men and obstruct the road and commit evil in your meeting place? And the answer of his people was not but that they said, 'Bring us the punishment of Allah if you should be among the truthful!'" (Al-Ankabut/29) contradict each other, despite both speaking about the same situation?

The response of Lot's people to their prophet varied according to the situation. At the beginning of his call and warning, they defiantly and mockingly demanded that he bring forth Allah's punishment. Then, when Lot (peace be upon him) persisted in his call and did not cease, their response was to expel him and his family from their town. Furthermore, the variation in the response might have stemmed from different factions within his people in the same situation.
