What is the ruling on cursing one's wife or some of one's children, and does cursing one's wife constitute a divorce?

A husband cursing his wife is not permissible and does not constitute a divorce; rather, she remains under his marital bond. He must repent and seek forgiveness for it, and he must ask her forgiveness for reviling her. It is generally not permissible to curse Muslims, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Abusing a Muslim is Fusuq (disobedience) and fighting him is Kufr (disbelief)," and his saying: "Cursing a believer is like killing him." Cursing is one of the major sins.
