There is no zakat on land purchased for acquisition or construction. Zakat becomes obligatory on its price if a hawl (full lunar year) passes while it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold). However, if the land is for trade, its value is assessed every year upon the completion of its hawl, and its zakat is paid. If funds are not available, the zakat for past years is paid upon sale. It is permissible to give zakat to a poor or indebted husband. It is not permissible to buy household necessities with zakat money because it becomes a personal benefit. It is disliked to benefit from purchases if the husband paid zakat and spent it on household necessities.
