How can one methodically study the science of Hadith while reconciling knowledge and practice?

Studying the science of Hadith is among the most important matters. The Hadith scholars have authored comprehensive books and specialized books on rulings, faith, and heart-softeners. Therefore, it is advisable to begin with abridgments such as Al-Umdah and Al-Riyadh, studying at least one Hadith daily, then moving on to Bulugh al-Maram, Al-Muntaqa, Al-Matjar al-Rabih, and Al-Targhib. After that, one should study the Jami' (comprehensive) collections, starting with the soundest ones. One must be keen on sincerity, accompanying people of knowledge, seeking help from accredited commentaries, and acting upon what one has learned, for Imam Ahmad used to act upon every Hadith he read.
