Is imagining that Allah is in front of the worshiper during prayer the required khushu' (devotion/humility), and is this imagination forbidden? What is the khushu' included in His, the Almighty's, saying: (Certainly, the believers have succeeded: those who are in their prayers humbly submissive)? And must a Muslim fear the Day of Judgment and the Day of Gathering, or is it sufficient for him to believe that Allah is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy and will forgive him?

Imagining that Allah is before you and looking at you during prayer is a form of humility (khushu') and there is no harm in it; the Companions used to do it. However, not fearing Allah's punishment and relying only on His mercy is a mistake, for Allah commanded His servants to fear Him. The fear of Allah is among the highest stations of religion, and one must combine fear with having a good opinion of Allah.
