Does prior approval invalidate an oath I took not to complete a specific thing except at a specified time?

Breaking an oath occurs by doing what one swore not to do, or by not doing what one swore to do. The ruling does not change if the swearer had given prior approval for the action. If the oath involved divorcing one's wife and the oath is broken, divorce occurs according to the majority of scholars, which is the preponderant opinion. However, Ibn Taymiyyah holds that an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin) is required. If the oath was by Allah Almighty, then an expiation for an oath is required upon breaking it.
