Is it permissible to look at the deceased before washing and after washing?

It is permissible to look at the deceased and kiss them before and after washing if the person doing so is someone who was allowed to look at them and touch them during their lifetime, such as mahrams (unmarriageable kin) and the spouse. The reverse applies if the deceased is female. This is supported by the Sunnah through hadiths narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), such as the Prophet (peace be upon him) kissing Uthman ibn Maz'un, and Abu Bakr kissing the Prophet (peace be upon him) after his death. Al-Shams al-Ramli mentioned the permissibility for the deceased's family and friends to kiss their face, and it is commendable for their family and similar individuals to do so. The permissibility is not restricted to them, with a preference for kissing the face of a righteous deceased person.
