Is it permissible to seek closeness to God and supplicate for two people to be joined together in Paradise if they are not destined for each other in this world, with the desire to be together in Paradise being the motivation for seeking closeness to God?
What is known today as love relationships between young men and women is not approved by Islamic law and is a gateway to temptation and corruption. Marriage is the best way for those who love each other. If that is not possible, then they must turn away from this attachment and strive to preserve themselves through marriage and occupy their time with what is beneficial. Accordingly, since the woman is engaged to someone other than the questioner, he should turn his heart away from her and occupy himself with what benefits him, and hasten to marry another if he is able. He should not seek to draw closer to Allah through good deeds and supplication so that Allah may unite him with that woman in Paradise, but rather let his approach be with the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure and entering His Gardens in general.
