What are the enduring good deeds, and when are they to be recited?

The sayings of the scholars have varied regarding "al-baqiyat as-salihat" (the enduring good deeds). It has been narrated from Ibn Abbas and Sa'id ibn Jubayr that they refer to the five daily prayers. It has also been narrated from them and from Ata' ibn Abi Rabah that they are "Subhan Allah, wal-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar" (Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest). Al-Qurtubi narrated from Ibn Abbas that "al-baqiyat as-salihat" are every good deed, whether a saying or an action, that remains for the Hereafter. Al-Qurtubi favored this opinion.
