Is it permissible to give zakat to one's paternal aunt who raised the questioner and received a portion of his salary, and who now has a small income? And is it permissible to give zakat to a brother who has a small income and is indebted to his brother?

It is permissible to give zakat to relatives who are eligible for it, such as an impoverished paternal aunt whose financial support is not obligatory upon the questioner, or a debt-ridden brother who is unable to repay his debts. This is based on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saying: "Charity given to a poor person is charity, and charity given to a relative is charity and a bond of kinship."
