What is the meaning of "dead, not living, and they perceive not when they will be resurrected"?

The noble verse came after verses in Surat An-Nahl that speak of creation, blessings, and divine management, and it is an appropriate comment after the soul has been prepared to affirm its content. Some exegetes have mentioned that this verse is great in denying power from those who are implored for help, such as inanimate objects and the dead, for they do not possess the ability to bring benefit to themselves or avert harm from themselves.
