How does a Muslim prepare for acts of obedience and for steadfastness in them during Ramadan before its arrival?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Ramadan is welcomed by recalling its immense virtues, such as the multiplication of rewards in it, the forgiveness of sins, the virtue of Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree) which equals the worship of a thousand months, and the revelation of divine books therein.

It is also welcomed by striving for sincere and genuine repentance, abandoning sins, regretting past transgressions, resolving not to return to them, and by hastening in repentance and adhering to it.

Preparation for fasting is affirmed in Sha'ban by training the body, increasing recitation of the Qur'an during it to soften the heart, and supplicating for reaching Ramadan and benefiting from it, along with a firm resolve to fast and pray during it out of faith and hope for reward. This also includes studying the state of the predecessors and their diligence in worship, gaining understanding of the rulings of fasting, listening to religious lessons, and reading books on spiritual edification related to Ramadan.
