What is the ruling on participating in English vocabulary memorization competitions organized by the teacher, knowing that some of them require a fee to participate while others do not, and the prize is from the teacher himself?

The teacher is thanked for his diligence. The two scenarios he implements, one is permissible and the other is not. The permissible one is offering the prize from his personal money. As for the forbidden one, it is when students pay a sum of money, and the competition in this manner is considered a form of maysir (gambling). The resolution of the Islamic Fiqh Academy emphasizes that a competition is permissible without a prize, and permissible with a prize if certain conditions are met, such as being lawful and that the prize should not be from all contestants. Also, competition cards whose value or part of it goes into the prizes are not permissible, as they are a form of maysir.
