Is it permissible for a wife to take from her husband's money without his knowledge, or to save some of the food he buys to sell it later and take its price, in order to meet the needs of the home and children that the husband neglects, knowing that the husband does not allow her to work, refuses to give her an allowance, and does not forgive taking anything from his money?

The obligatory maintenance for a wife from her husband includes food, drink, clothing, and housing, according to the husband's financial ability. If the husband falls short in this maintenance, the wife may take from his money what suffices her and her children, in a reasonable manner and without excess. The proof for this is the hadith of Hind bint Utbah.

As for repairing broken appliances, a son's sports club membership, annual outings, and purchasing non-essential items, these are not part of the obligatory maintenance. If the wife takes from his money more than her needs, or saves it without his permission for non-obligatory matters, she must repent and inform the husband of what she took, so that he may forgive her or make his decision. It is commendable for the husband to forgive her and to be generous with her in the future to the best of his ability.
