What is the ruling on writing "Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah" on shopping bags, and is it permissible to gift them to someone who might throw them away or treat them disrespectfully?

Medina is the name of the city to which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, emigrated, lived, passed away, and was buried. It holds legal reverence, and anything bearing its name must be protected from desecration. Those who desecrate bags inscribed with "Medina" should be advised to place respectful items in them, not trash. A Muslim should fear Allah in this regard to the best of their ability.
