What is the ruling on insulting the heavens?

No specific text has been reported regarding the cursing of the sky. The general principle clarified by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, remains: "The believer is not one who slanders, or curses, or speaks obscenities, or uses foul language." The repulsiveness is intensified due to the sky being a revered direction and a creation of Allah. Imam Al-Shafi'i justified the dislike of cursing the wind by stating that it is an obedient creation of Allah and one of His soldiers. It was reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Do not curse the wind, for it brings mercy and punishment." Based on this, cursing the sky is no less than the rank of dislike (Karahah).
