What is the ruling on cursing the world?

The basic principle is that a Muslim should not be excessively given to cursing and swearing, based on the hadith: "A believer is not a slanderer, nor a curser, nor an obscene speaker, nor an ill-mannered person."

As for cursing the world, it is permissible if what is meant is that which distracts from obedience to Allah, based on the hadith: "The world is cursed, cursed is what is in it, except for the remembrance of Allah and what follows it, and a scholar or a student." This has been interpreted to mean that the world is detested by Allah because it distances one from Him, and what is in it that distracts from Allah is cursed, except for what is related to the remembrance of Allah and acts of righteousness.

The worthlessness of the world and its distraction from Allah is due to not acting according to Allah's command within it. For whoever acts according to Allah's command within it, it becomes a means of earning rewards and good deeds. The righteous believer makes the world a means of drawing closer to Allah.
