To what extent is the circulating story true about a woman who embraced Islam during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and vowed to circumambulate the Kaaba naked if her desire was fulfilled – which is what the polytheists used to do in the pre-Islamic era – and when her desire was fulfilled and she came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he ordered her to take a lock of her hair and circumambulate with it as fulfillment of her vow?

This narration has no basis, and it contradicts the established Sunnah which stipulates that a vow to commit a sin must not be fulfilled. Thus, whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him. And whoever vows to disobey Him, let him not disobey Him. A vow to commit a sin is invalid and does not take effect, and it requires an expiation for breaking an oath (kaffarat yamin). Therefore, a woman's vow to circumambulate naked is forbidden and invalid, and it requires an expiation for breaking an oath.
