Fulfilling a vow that involves disobedience is forbidden, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) sayings: "Whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him," and "There is no fulfillment of a vow that involves disobedience." The one who made such a vow must only repent. This is the view of Shafi'i, Malik, and the majority of scholars, while Abu Hanifa holds that an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat ) is required.
