To what extent can one rely on what is stated in the book Asna al-Matalib fi Najat Abi Talib (The Noblest of Demands Regarding the Salvation of Abu Talib)?

The Prophet's uncle, Abu Talib, died as a disbeliever, and this has been proven by authentic evidence. There is no significant disagreement among scholars on this issue.

Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Rida authored the book "Siyanat al-Insan 'an Waswasat al-Shaykh Dahlan" (Protecting Humanity from the Whispers of Sheikh Dahlan) to refute the fatwa of the leading scholar of Mecca in his time, Ahmad Dahlan, who ruled that Abu Talib was a believer. It was said that this fatwa was issued due to a bribe.

This account was mentioned by العلامة Rashid Ahmad Gangohi in his book "Al-Barahin al-Qati'ah" (The Decisive Proofs), attributing it to one of his students, though it is correct that he himself dictated it to him. The book "Siyanat al-Insan" is sufficient to clarify the true state of Ahmad Zayni Dahlan.
