Is it permissible for a son to hold his father accountable, and if so, when and how should this accountability take place?

If the son intends by the 'reckoning' to guide and advise his father, then there is no objection to it; rather, it is an act of dutifulness and kindness. This is indicated by Abraham’s saying to his father: "O my father! Verily there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to a straight path. O my father! Do not worship Satan." The son must adhere to proper manners and choose appropriate words when giving advice, avoiding reprimand and insult. The advice should be given when there is a need for it, such as when a reprehensible act is committed.
